The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA this week has successfully landed two probing robots on the asteroid Ryugu in our solar system’s asteroid belt. This mission is the first of its kind to have been completed. JAXA’s Hayabusa2 asteroid exploration craft has deployed two robots with cameras to the surface of the rock, giving us some spectacular images. We’ve seen images from the surface of the moon, mars and in space, but these are the first to be taken from an asteroid.
